I was hoping this guide would give me ideas for backpacking trips. However, it's better for day hikes or very short overnights. None of the routes are appropriate for multi-day backpacking unless you hike very slow and want to spend a lot of time sitting around at camp. The estimated days to complete the trips in this book are aimed at people who are going at an EXTREMELY slow pace. For example, there is a 9.3 mile hike that is estimated to take 3-5 days, and a 6.6 mile hike that is estimated to take 1-2 days. Not disparaging anyone who wants to take their time, but I would consider either of those to be short day hikes, and I was hoping for some 50+ mile routes, but this book has none. I purchased this trail guidebook after losing my old book last year. I spend several long weekends each year hiking and backpacking in the Trinity Alps, and I am always looking for new areas to explore.This trail guide is extremely well done. Each hike is complete with driving directions, distance and elevation gained totals, intensity of the hike, pictures (black and white) of major landmarks on the hike, detailed maps, and most-importantly, a detailed description of each hike. Many of the hikes are written in such detail to cover every tenth of a mile.Also included for each hike is a description of the flora and fauna found in each region. This is very helpful for someone who is interested in which variety of plants and trees are in the various areas of the forest.When appropriate, also included is a description of any nearby side trips. This was helpful on my most recent trip to the Four Lakes Loop in helping us decide whether or not to summit Siliago Peak during our hike.One other feature which I found helpful is a section at the beginning of the book listing the most popular destinations in the wilderness, based on various traits of the lakes or hikes, such "Most Beautiful Lakes", "Best Sunset", "Most Family-Friendly Hike", and so on.Excellent reference guide for any adventure in to the Trinity Alps. Highly recommend this book.
